There is still a chance for a fourth home run coming tonight, but I couldn’t wait to shout this out. It’s too good.
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Jordan Nwogu has homered THREE TIMES already tonight:
Nwogu, the Cubs’ third rounder in 2020, has had fits and spurts this year, but the 23-year-old came into the season with a 119 wRC+ at High-A, and he’s obliterated that tonight.
Some context from Bryan:
It seems there’s a chance Nwogu could go to Double-A Tennessee before the season is up, but given that he’s missed time this year, and is not Rule 5 eligible until after 2023, the Cubs might be content to promote him level by level.
In any case, Nwogu is exploding, and it’s fun to think about how he is not a guy you could place in the system’s top 20 prospects, even if you were a particularly huge fan. It’s a deep, deep system. And Jordan Nwogu, 30th to 40th “best prospect” though he may be in the Cubs’ system, is really good.
