Braves and Rangers Get Together on a Jake Odorizzi Trade

Chicago Cubs

There have been two early-offseason trades so far, and both involved the Atlanta Braves. They are always active.

The first was for a fringe outfielder from the Rockies (which was notable mostly because it’s the type of trade we might soon see more of), but this second one is a little more interesting:

Jake Odorizzi is not a star or anything, but he’s a capable starting pitcher going to a team that is rumored to be heavy in the market on starting pitchers. So if this softens the Rangers’ aggressiveness on starters slightly, that sounds good to me.

Allard, 25, is actually a former Braves prospect who has not been able to put it together with the Rangers. I expect that this trade, for the Braves, was mostly about unloading some of Odorizzi’s $12.5 million salary.
