The Chicago Cubs today agreed to a one-year, $17.5 million deal with center fielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger. It’s a perfect fit for both sides, as Bellinger gets a chance to rebuild his value in a spot where he can be assured plenty of starts, and the Cubs get a quality glove and bounce-back potential in a lefty bat on a short-term deal.
Cubs manager David Ross was on Intentional Talk on MLB Network when word of the signing broke. Live. And his reaction is delightful:
That’s genuine excitement there from Ross, complete with an accidental happy expletive. Live TV. Anything can happen!
