To be honest, I’d kinda forgotten that Trevor Bauer was still out there as a free agent.
The 32-year-old former Cy Young winner, who was bounced by the Dodgers after serving his suspension under the joint domestic violence policy, hasn’t pitched since mid-2021. That, combined with the baggage, meant that no MLB team was looking to sign him, even for the league minimum. So he was pretty much off my radar at this point.
And now he’s off my continent.
Trevor Bauer is heading to Japan to pitch for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of the NPB:
It remains to be seen what will happen with Bauer after this season, though it’s fair to guess he’s hoping to be able to parlay a good season in Japan into a return to MLB. I’m not sure performance is going to be the issue for most teams, though.
