Just one more opponent. Just two more games! Just three more days! We are almost there. Here’s the Cubs lineup for their second to last game of the Spring!
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Trey Mancini, 1B
- Eric Hosmer, DH
- Yan Gomes, C
- Edwin Rios, 3B
- Miles Mastrobuoni, RF
The Cubs are squeezing every last possible ounce out of the spring schedule to make their final, fringe roster decisions. That’s so very Cub. They hate making decisions before they absolutely have to. At this point, it stands to reason that Edwin Rios is making the team, but I suppose it is at least a question. Miles Mastrobuoni is also right there on the cusp. We’ll see, I guess.
I am also heartened to see Nico Hoerner back in there again, after returning from his bicep injury yesterday. Let’s hope he finishes the spring nice and healthy and ready to go. He’s the leadoff man this year. He’ll set the tone for the entire lineup.
Pitching Matchups:
Cubs: Jameson Taillon, RHP
White Sox: Mike Clevinger, RHP
I don’t think it’s been announced yet, and off-days make anything possible, but it sure seems like the Cubs are set to go Stroman-Steele-Taillon-Smyly-Wesneski, in that order to start the year. We know those are the five names (and that Marcus Stroman gets Opening Day), but I probably would’ve guessed that Taillon was going to go second at the start of the spring. Doesn’t really matter much. That order will change by the end of the year. It always does.
