Cubs vs Braves — This may not be the most important series left on the Cubs schedule this year, but it is absolutely going to be the most challenging. The 2023 Atlanta Braves are an absolute powerhouse team, and they can do it all, both sides of the ball, against any type of pitcher. They’re even getting Max Fried back for this afternoon’s opener against the Cubs (hopefully he hasn’t shaken off all the cobwebs yet…).
On the bright side, the Cubs do have their two steadiest starting pitchers going in this one, Justin Steele and Kyle Hendricks. But at the same time, Saturday’s game is Marcus Stroman’s vacated spot, so that breeds a little less confidence.
At least we’re back to some freakin’ day baseball though, right? It’s been WAY too many night games lately. And I am excited to see how the Cubs compose themselves against a legitimate World Series contender.
