If you do this job long enough, it’s really wild to see the range of topics that can somehow become attached to sports. That is to say, I did not envision myself at some point writing about flight safety, cockpit rules, and the Federal Aviation Administration, but here we are.
According to multiple reports, the FAA is investigating how a passenger was seen in a video on social media apparently in the cockpit of the Colorado Rockies’ team flight from Denver to Toronto:
Speaking only generally, it seems wildly unsafe to have a passenger in the cockpit during a flight. If that’s what happened here, I struggle to think of how or why the pilot(s) would think that was OK. Hence the investigation, I suppose.
I’m not sure there could or would be any consequences for the at-issue passenger, though MLB may not be thrilled about it. Instead, I would think the questions would be for the pilots and the airline.
