Cubs vs Cardinals — Okay, then. The Cubs offense has been in a brutal rut and the team’s record has suffered for it. But the worst stretch is arguably behind them now. And the coming schedule provides a LOT of room to take some steps forward, both because of whom they’re facing and where it’s happening.
Although 11 of the next 16 games are on the road, they’re all relatively local. The Cubs kick this stretch off this weekend with three games against the Cardinals in St. Louis, followed by four games against the Brewers in Milwaukee. After that, they head home to face the Reds (3 games) and White Sox (2 games) at Wrigley, before facing the Reds again for four games in Cincinnati. That’s a lot of midwest games against bad and/or NL Central teams.
If there was ever a time to make up some ground and turn the vibes around, this is it.
