It was another tough season for the Charlotte Hornets who finished 21-61 and missed the playoffs for the 8th consecutive year. Let’s take a look at the team’s 2024 NBA Draft picks, future selections, and more as they build to get back into the playoffs.
Charlotte Hornets 2024 NBA Draft Picks

Charlotte hopes to add an elite prospect at number 6 to complement Miles Bridges, Brandon Miller, and LaMelo Ball. Bridges scored 21.0 points per game in 2023-24 while Brandon Miller averaged 17.3 points to earn All-Rookie honors.
The biggest question is LaMelo Ball who has had issues staying healthy and played just 22 games this past season. Ball won the Rookie of the Year and has an All-Star selection under his belt but he has played only 58 games in the past two seasons combined.
Hornets Future Draft Picks
When it comes to future draft picks, the Hornets have quite a bit to work with. If they can put together some solid picks and add good veteran role players, they might be able to flip the script and make a playoff push. Check out the upcoming draft selections for Charlotte.

Has Charlotte Ever Had the No. 1 Pick?
Charlotte has only had the number-one overall pick once despite a lack of playoff success in the franchise’s history. This number 1 selection was in 1991 when they took Larry Johnson out of UNLV. In 5 seasons in Charlotte, Johnson won the Rookie of the Year and earned All-Star honors twice. He averaged 19.6 points and 9.2 rebounds with the Hornets and even made second-team All-NBA in 1992-93.
The Hornets have traded away a few notable players including Kobe Bryant in 1996 after drafting him out of high school at number 13. They also drafted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2018 at no. 11 before trading him to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Charlotte Hornets Recent Season Results
The Hornets have had an interesting franchise history going from the Hornets to the Bobcats and back to the Hornets since joining the NBA back in 1988. The team has never reached the Conference Finals and hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2015-16 when they were bounced in the first round.
In the past two seasons, they have struggled going a combined 48-116 after going 43-39 in 2021-22, and looking like they might finally start to push toward making some playoff runs.
