Did Lamar Jackson Turn Down a $200 Million Guaranteed Deal from the Ravens?

The Lamar Jackson saga marches on, and this time the star quarterback is putting his two cents into the conversation on Twitter.

Jackson broke his Twitter silence on Tuesday when he quote tweeted a post by SN Nation’s ‘Baltimore Beatdow’ with a headline that read: “Schefter: Lamar Jackson turned down $200 million guaranteed deal back in September.”

On Monday, Adam Schefter made this claim on his podcast, ‘The Adam Schefter Podcast’:

“Chris Mortensen and I reported on this last September when Lamar Jackson was offered a deal that he turned down. A deal that included at the time he was offered $133 million due at signing,” Schefter said. “$133 million guaranteed. The contract also had injury guarantees that brought the guarantees to $175 million, and it then had a springing guarantee that could’ve brought the value for the contract, the guaranteed money of the contract to $200 million in guarantees… and yes, those were the actual numbers, and that was the situation. So those really were the guarantees for Lamar Jackson.”

But based on his mocking GIF response on Twitter, it seems that Lamar disagrees:

And then there’s this nugget by Lamar Jackson in the replies to that tweet:

So … no, Lamar never turned down a fully guaranteed $200 million deal from the Ravens. However, he did turn down a deal that could have reached that number in guaranteed money.

Let’s return to the original quote tweet by Jackson for a moment. First, Jackson is calling Schefter’s report bologna. But more importantly, he’s now publicly commenting on his negotiations with the Ravens, which he hadn’t previously done.

While reports have removed some potential landing spots from the equation, those reports are just that … reports. We’ll find out if anyone has had a change of heart when teams can begin to negotiate with Jackson tomorrow afternoon.
