Some bad news out of San Francisco today. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that starting quarterback Brock Purdy has entered the concussion protocol. The 49ers lost to the Vikings 22-17 on Monday Night Football.
Shanahan said that Purdy started experiencing symptoms of concussion during the team flight home after the loss to Minnesota on Monday night. Brock Purdy was 21-for-30 and threw for 272 yards along with a touchdown and two interceptions against the Vikings.
If Purdy is unable to play on Sunday in the Niners Week 8 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, backup Sam Darnold is likely to get the starting nod. Darnold signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with San Francisco in the offseason.
We likely won’t know until later in the week whether or not Purdy is officially out, but all signs seem to point that way and Darnold getting the start on Sunday.
