It’s finally April and the 2024 NFL Draft is just a few weeks away! Detroit Lions fans are excited to build on last year’s NFC Championship game appearance. Take a look at our latest Detroit Lions mock draft and who we see them taking the first round rounds at the end of this month.
2024 Mock Draft: Lions Round 1
The Lions need to fill roles at wide receiver, interior offensive line, and cornerback. Any of these could be targeted in the first round. There is one target that we believe the Lions will jump on if still available.
Selection at No. 29: Adonai Mitchell – WR (Texas)
Mitchell tested off the charts at the NFL combine and will be a nice compliment to Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams on the outside. He runs a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash and boasts a vertical of almost 40 inches. He’s a big play threat and would be a great weapon to have.

More Round 1 Options for Detroit
The Lions could easily address cornerback or offensive line in the late first round. The offensive line has several veterans on 1-2 deals so an interior offensive lineman like Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon is definitely an option. He will get experience before growing into a full-time starter.
Also, with the release of cornerback Cam Sutton, the Lions will be adding depth in the secondary. At the end of the first round, cornerbacks Kamari Lassiter from Georgia and Kool-Aid McKinstry from Alabama would help add to the secondary. Each corner can make an immediate impact if the Lions decide to go that route.
Holmes Plans to Target Best Available in Round 1
General manager Brad Holmes has continually talked about getting the best possible value in the first round. This means we could see him go with the best available approach at number 29 overall. This will make for an exciting first day of the draft as Lions fans watch what players fall with certain teams to open up a potential steal late in the first round.
Lions Mock Draft Rounds 2-3
Round 2, Pick 61 Selection: TJ Tampa – CB (Iowa State)
The Lions need to add to the secondary and could go cornerback in the second round if a player like TJ Tampa from Iowa State is still available. Tampa has great size at 6’1″ and should be able to make a quick impact.
Round 3, Pick 73 Selection: Marshawn Kneeland – EDGE (Western Mich)
In round 3, the Lions will have to attack finding an edge rusher to compliment Aidan Hutchinson. Marshawn Kneeland is sitting in that 2nd-3rd round area and could be a great addition for Detroit. He built up experience moving around at Western and he had a strong week at the Senior Bowl.
2024 NFL Mock Draft: First 10 Selections
How will the beginning of the first round shake out? Take a look at our mock draft for the first 10 selections in the first round. We see a projected trade in this latest mock draft between Arizona and Minnesota that moves the Vikings up to number 4 overall so they can select a quarterback.
Pick | Team | Selection | Pos. | College |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | CHI | Caleb Williams | QB | USC |
No surprise here. The Bears quickly take the top prospect and potential superstar in Caleb Williams. | ||||
2 | WAS | Jayden Daniels | QB | LSU |
The Heisman Trophy winner has a slight edge over Drake Maye to go number 2 but that could change. For now, we have Washington getting a true dual-threat QB here. | ||||
3 | NE | Drake Maye | QB | UNC |
The Patriots will pounce on whatever QB doesn’t go number two. They scoop up Drake Maye as he falls to number 3. | ||||
4 | MIN* | JJ McCarthy | QB | MICH |
Talk of Minnesota trading up is picking up steam. We think they pull the trigger and move up to draft JJ McCarthy out of Michigan as they need a QB of the future | ||||
5 | LAC | Marvin Harrison Jr. | WR | OSU |
The Chargers and Justin Herbert will add potentially the best player in the draft thanks to Arizona moving down our latest mock draft. | ||||
6 | NYG | Malik Nabers | WR | LSU |
Nabers is an elite wideout and the Giants could use another weapon on the outside. | ||||
7 | TEN | Joe Alt | OT | Notre Dame |
The Titans need to bulk up the offensive line to protect Will Levis as he develops. Joe Alt is a no-brainer here. | ||||
8 | ATL | Dallas Turner | EDGE | Alabama |
Atlanta needs more options to help get after the quarterback so they will jump on getting a great pass rusher like Dallas Turner in the top 10. | ||||
9 | CHI | Laiatu Latu | EDGE | UCLA |
The Bears could very easily trade this pick but if they hold on, a great edge player like Latu will be a great addition to the defense. | ||||
10 | NYJ | Taliese Fuaga | OT | Oregon St |
The team needs offensive line depth and Taliese Fuaga can help protect Aaron Rodgers right away as the Jets make a push for a deep playoff run. Mock drafts are torn over offensive line or wideout here for the Jets. |
