Here’s how you sum that one up: It’s not too often that you see a position player pitching TAKEN OUT MID-INNING because he hit his pitch count. But that happened today.
So, yeah, that did not go well. Unless, of course, your primary interest is in being about to say “wow, the Cubs are really outperforming their run differential this year!“
The Cubs were due for a stinker like that, and you’d rather a lot of the bad stuff all came together in such a way that it’s not like you can point to any one, small reason the Cubs lost. Get it all out of your systems in a single game, boys.
Ben Brown was not all that bad today, which feels like a distant memory, but he also didn’t look his sharpest. Unfortunately, Luke Little followed Brown by looking about as bad and wild as he’s ever looked. That was pretty much that, but the Red Sox poured on from there.
Christopher Morel left the game late after a collision with Alexander Canario in foul territory – Morel went over the top of Canario and landed hard on the ground, grimacing in the vicinity of his left elbow.
I’m hoping there’s no injury there, and it’s just a matter of it being the end of the game and there was no reason not to take him out. I guess we’ll see.
Bad game. Bad day.
