L.A. Passes Resolution Urging MLB to Strip 2017 and 2018 World Series Titles, Give Them to Dodgers

For the most part, I find very little about the Astros’ electronic sign-stealing scandal humorous (and the Red Sox’s shenanigans, which are still being investigated). Some of the jokes about the trashcan banging, yeah, those are funny. There are other peripherals jokes that are clever, too. But mostly, it’s just kinda sad what they did to the trust in the sport, and how badly they may have screwed over fellow players in really, really significant ways.

So, mostly, I’m not gonna laugh at any of the misfortunes attending what the Astros did, especially for fellow AL West teams and others who got bounced by the Astros – or later, the Red Sox – in the postseason. The Dodgers had to watch the Astros and then Red Sox celebrate their titles in LA, for crying out loud. I’d be so overwhelmingly pissed if I were them.

But this … I’m sorry, but this does make me chuckle:

Most political endeavors these days seem to be pure theater, but this may take the cake. I’m sure that ceremonially stripping the Astros and Red Sox of their titles, and then conveying them to the Dodgers in some kind of January presentation would definitely make the Dodgers feel better …

The reality is that it’s just not going to happen. Everyone knows it isn’t going to happen, and even if it were going to happen, you wouldn’t just give the titles to the World Series loser, since the “cheaters” beat a whole lot of other teams along the way.

So, I’m issuing a resolution of my own, urging MLB to strip the Astros and Red Sox of their titles, and convey them back to the previous World Series champion in good standing. I have no personal stake in this matter, and I have not even gone back to check which team that would be. It could be any team, really.
