Progress is Coming For Mitch Trubisky and Other Bullets

It’s Memorial Day, so take some time to reflect on what this day means to you, as well as this country:

  • Bears backup quarterback Chase Daniel was part of the league’s offseason salute to service, which is a good look for the league, as well as the players themselves who took time out to make a grand gesture:
  • The key cog in everything the Bears do moving forward is quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal believes is the home-grown player who means the most for the Bears this season. That’s as obvious as an answer gets, isn’t it? Trubisky plays the most important position in the sport. And on a team that has invested in pieces everywhere else on the offensive side of the ball, it’s not unfair to think like Rosenthal and believe it’s time for Trubisky to take “the step from ‘good enough’ to being an asset.” As long as Head Coach Matt Nagy is still designing and calling plays, Trubisky will have a fair shot at achieving the lofty standards set before him.
  • Nagy’s love for his quarterback makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside:

  • Progress is coming:
  • If Trubisky is going to be successful, he’ll need the pieces around him to do their jobs. That includes running back David Montgomery, the third-round pick who Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton believes is the Bears’ most dangerous new weapon. As if the Bears needed more offensive weaponry, they added a back who projects to have the ability to run inside and out, used reliably in the passing game, and has tackle-breaking ability in the open field. Montgomery did a little bit of everything at Iowa State and will be put in a position to do more of the same in Chicago.
  • I’m definitely excited to see this guy in the lineup:

  • Former Bears Scouting Director Greg Gabriel (670 The Score) pieces together how the Bears’ backfield could work. In general, the league is moving away from having one back carry a bulk of the load and the Bears are the latest to join the party. With Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, and Mike Davis, they have versatility in the backfield that will hopefully create mismatches no matter where they are deployed. Montgomery and Davis are better built to handle a higher volume of carries, but let’s not forget the Bears also had various receivers who were given hand-offs last year. How they are used in the offense could tip the scales on whether or not the Bears’ running game reaches its potential.
  • Sometimes, I find myself down a YouTube rabbit hole and find Khalil Mack things I find worth sharing:
  • You can never have too much Bears-focused draft analysis:
  • Bears cornerbacks better be ready, because Michael Thomas and Keenan Allen – two of the three most clutch receivers in football – will make their way to Soldier Field and provide stiff competition this year:
  • Elsewhere on the Saints receiving depth chart, this is a disappointing development:
  • Even though Cam Meredith isn’t on the Bears any more, we’re still rooting for the health of a player who fought his way to get to where he is today. “Once a Bears, always a Bear” … right?
