Sunk Costs, Halas-Lombardi History, Rodgers Plays It Straight, Peanut Rows, and Other Bullets

Alright, Cubs, here is the deal: You hate me, and I hate the way you’ve been playing even more. But with one month of baseball left, you’re all I’ve got. So, I want you to remember something inspiring that someone else may have have told you during the course of your lives, go out there, and win the division.

  • The sunk cost of the Cody Parkey deal is real:
  • There was some financial sting when the Bears parted ways with Parkey in the offseason. But in the end, it was unquestionably the correct decision to rip the band-aid off and feel the burn. The best thing a team can do after making a mistake is to fess up, cut ties, and start with a clean slate. Doubling down on a mistake only compounds matters and makes them tougher to deal with. And frankly, the last thing the Bears needed was to make a bad situation worse.
  • Now that the Bears have put their full support behind Eddy Piñeiro, we can fully move on with our football lives. We can shift focus to conversations about Khalil Mack, Mitch Trubisky, Eddie Jackson, Tarik Cohen, Akiem Hicks, David Montgomery, Kyle Fuller, Allen Robinson, Cody Whitehair, Eddie Goldman, and … well, you get the point.
  • The 2019 Bears have so much more to talk about than the kicker position, which goes a long way toward framing how much talent this team has from top to bottom. Head Coach Matt Nagy, Offensive Coordinator Mark Helfrich, and Defensive Coordinator Chuck Pagano have so much talent at their disposal, that it pushed so many eyes to the one problematic spot on the roster. But what if Piñeiro properly fills that void? Sounds like a scary proposition for the rest of the teams in the NFC North.
  • In case you missed it, the Bears signed guard Cody Whitehair to a five-year extension. Paying guards makes some fans cringe, but between the importance of protecting the quarterback and the increased value of strong interior offensive line play as defenses get stronger pass-rushers in the middle, I’m coming to grips with being OK signing big-money deals for guards.
  • Things could be worse for the Bears. The team has ample cap space (some of which was used to keep Whitehair) and still doesn’t have a contract one would deem as bad or limiting.
  • Mitch Trubisky will find this to be true … from a certain point of view:
  • Come on, nerd. Give us something to use:
  • See you Thursday, Cheesedoodles:
  • Don’t threaten me with a good time, Mr. Mack:

  • Among today’s deals at Amazon, the Instant Pot.
  • Josh Woods’ fight from to make it on the Bears’ 53-man roster after spending last year on the practice squad is a remarkable one:
  • It will take some getting used to seeing No. 55 on the field and it not be Lance Briggs.
  • Dan Pompei’s dive into a chapter of Bears-Packers history featuring the relationship between George Halas and Vince Lombardi is worth clearing out some time to read on this day:
  • Smooth transition from the founding father of Bears football to the most influential Bears coach of his era:
  • Way to go, Peanut:
  • Not bad for a guy who was drafting while trying to stay abreast of what was happening on the Bears’ roster movement:
