At last check, we were up to 16 of the Cubs’ 33 Spring Training games this year being available via TV/video of some kind, which is a huge uptick from recent years. And it’s getting even uptickier.
That’s because MLB Network has announced its Spring broadcast schedule, which you can see here, and there are several additional Cubs games being broadcast. There are 15 Cubs games total that will appear on MLB Network (subject to local blackout), and here are the ones that aren’t otherwise available on WGN-9, CSN Chicago, or ESPN:
On those tape-delayed games: in theory, the video used for the delayed broadcast is going to be a live, local broadcast in another market, and those games *should* be available live on MLB.tv. The MLB.tv schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but that’s usually how this works.
So, then, when you total everything – between Cubs local broadcasts, MLBN games, and MLB.tv games – we should have some form of video available for at least 20 of the Cubs’ 33 Spring Training Games. It’s possible that, when the full MLB.tv schedule comes out, there could be a few more from other markets, too. I’ll keep you posted on that front.
The volume of TV/video available on the Cubs this Spring is going to be far more than we’ve ever had available. I’m giddy.
As the games approach, obviously I’ll keep you apprised of where and when you can watch/listen to that day’s game.
