Hey, Getting to the LCS Again Is Still Impressive and Other Bullets

The kiddos have a four-day weekend because of school scheduling what-have-you. It’s so nice to have them around. Unrelatedly, I am sprinting out the door to go work somewhere else.

  • The Boston Red Sox were the best team in the American League this year, and now they’ve won the AL pennant over the Houston Astros. It doesn’t always work out that way, but it did this year. Good for them.
  • You may recall that Astros starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel said certain things about the Cubs in relation to his own team not having a World Series hangover. The Astros may have won more regular season games in their follow-up season than the Cubs did, but the Cubs won exactly as many games as they needed to lose 4-1 in the LCS of that season … exactly like the Astros.

  • In all seriousness, the real lesson here is that it’s very hard to get to the LCS in multiple years, and the teams that pull it off are very impressive (and, to some extent, lucky).

  • Meanwhile, the Dodgers will look to reach the World Series for a second straight year by closing out the Brewers tonight in Milwaukee. They lead the series 3-2, so they’ll have a couple cracks. Hyun-Jin Ryu faces Wade Miley, who will probably pitch to more than one batter. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW BECAUSE THE BREWERS ARE SO CRAFTY!
  • Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde is reportedly among the five finalists for the Blue Jays managerial gig.
  • Good day for Cubs prospects in the Arizona Fall League:
  • Kyle Hendricks taking in a little Blackhawks:
  • The Royals are still considering signing convicted child molester Luke Heimlich, and GM Dayton Moore is still trying to raise support for that proposition. Not everyone who can throw a baseball has to be included in MLB:
  • In the Bears world:
