Theo Epstein and Co. Ate a Roasted Goat in the Wrigley Field Bleachers

If you’re familiar with the Chicago Cubs (and/or live on Earth), you’ll probably already know that they recently won their first World Series championship in over 100 years. In the process, they also wiped away the Curse of the Billy Goat, which has seemingly plagued their organization since 1945.

If you’re familiar with the west-loop restaurant Girl & the Goat (a.k.a. that place you can never seem to get into, no matter when you go), you’ll know they serve a number of goat-based dishes including 1) goat liver mousse, 2) goat carpaccio, 3) goat empanadas, 4) goat shank and 5) goat legs.

Can you see where I’m going yet?

Upon winning the World Series and returning to Wrigley Field, Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein (the man most credited with delivering a championship to the Chicago Cubs) had one request of Kevin Boehm – a friend of the organization and co-owner of the restaurant group that owns Girl & The Goat.

Simply: I’d like to eat some roasted-goat.

Boehm gleefully fulfilled Epstein’s request, enlisting the help of chef Stephanie Izard to prepare an oven-roasted 9.5 pound goat – apparently it’s one of her specialties. Then, of course, they ate it … right there at an empty Wrigley Field … in the left field bleachers. Awesome.

Although Epstein is not a superstitious man by nature, I’m betting goat has never tasted so good. He delivered a World Series victory to Chicago, wiped out his second multi-decade franchise curse, and feasted lavishly in celebration.
