Cole is Team Boras, World Series Droughts, Halloween, and Other Cubs Bullets

We are fortunate to get to do a couple trick-or-treats each year, because tonight’s might get rained out. That’s the typical one, but this past weekend we got to do a special needs trick-or-treat at a nearby hotel – people/groups get a floor of rooms, which they deck out for Halloween, and then give out candy to families with kiddos who might not otherwise be able to do traditional trick-or-treat. It’s something you don’t think about until/unless you’re in that situation, and I’m pretty grateful we were able to do it – not only for The Littlest Girl (a fairy), but also the big kids (a Cubs player and Supergirl), too. It’s really good for them to continue to be around all kinds of different folks, and to develop that empathy for people for whom life is very different, but can still be great.

Speaking of which, I’ve gotta scoot out to The Littlest Girl’s Halloween parade at school … quick Bullets …

It’s kind of amazing that Gerrit Cole, immediately upon losing the World Series, was like eff the Astros I’m out:

That guy is gonna get paaaaaaaaaaaaid. Odds are very slim it’s the Cubs, but it’s nice to dream about landing one of the best pitchers in the game in his late 20s. Look at how much Max Scherzer has meant for the Nationals if you want to think about the best case scenario in signing a guy like Cole.

I couldn’t help but notice that the Pirates grabbed a player off of waivers yesterday, which is not a story, except that they’re currently operating without a baseball president or a GM. So it’s humorous to think about who is making those kinds of fringe roster decisions right now.

Also, free agency is now open, and options/qualifying offer decisions are due soon, and the GM meetings are in a couple weeks. The Pirates are gonna have to put their foot on the gas to get their organization in place to properly participate in the offseason. What a mess.
