It isn’t hyperbole to say the first half effort from the Chicago Bears offense was one of the worst I have ever seen.
The numbers bear it out:

Per Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times, ESPN’s Stats department has unearthed a gem. The Bears’ first half offense was the worst by an NFL team in the last 40 yards. Nine yards. Zero points. All of the bad thoughts.
Reading these numbers are excruciatingly painful, but browsing through them really drives home how putrid this group was in the first 30 minutes of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It doesn’t get much worse than that, folks!
The Eagles came into this game with a secondary that struggled to slow down opposing receivers. But when the quarterback can’t hit open guys, the running game can’t get off the ground, penalties keep the offense operating behind the sticks, and the offensive scheme is predictable, all of a sudden Philly’s glaring weakness doesn’t look like one at all. And since Chicago has shown no signs of being able to exploit a soft spot, this is what it’s going to look like.
Sure, the Bears have a second half to play and there is nowhere to go but up. Then again, things could get worse before they get better real soon based on how this game (and season) have gone.
