Aaron Hicks Makes Fantastic Catch, Fan Aggressively Avoids Interference

Earlier this week, we watched in awe as Yankees left fielder Aaron Hicks made the fastest ever throw (in the Statcast era) from left field to home plate. Unleashing the ball at ridiculous 105.5 MPH, Hicks nailed Danny Valencia at home as he was tagging up from third.

But, Hicks doesn’t want us to forget his name, because last night he made this amazing catch against the left field foul wall:

With two men on and a tie game in the top of the fourth, Chris Coghlan sent a fly ball down the left field line. Seemingly destined to land foul, Aaron Hicks made a fantastic leaping grab reaching ever so slightly into the stands to reel it in.

Even more impressive is one particular fan’s ability to avoid the play. Perhaps having learned from the infamous Moises Alou/Steve Bartman incident back in 2003, the fan down the left field line stands up big and tall, throws his hands in the air and provides Hicks with the opportunity. He REALLY wanted to make sure everyone knew he was not interfering.

You can see it in GIF form here:

Later in the game, Hicks nailed Jed Lowrie as he tried to stretch a single into a double, too.

Have yourself a night, Mr. Hicks. Get yourself a beer, no-interference-fan.
