Zach Wilson Clowned Aaron Rodgers Lack of “Swag,” Only to Later Draw Comparisons to the QB

In case you missed it, BYU quarterback Zach Wilson went OFF on Tuesday night against UCF.

Wilson, who projects to be one of the five best draft-eligible quarterback prospects in this class, completed 26 of 34 passes, threw for 425 yards, and scored five touchdowns. Just for kicks, he added a 16-yard reception on a trick play. And for good measure, the ESPN broadcast brought to life a playful online beef Wilson is participating in with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

It starts with this via KSLsports.com, which quotes Wilson on ESPN’s “The Wrap Up” talking about his style and swag. After diving into his look that features a Jumpman headband, visor, and arm sleeve, Wilson discussed whose style he models his game after. To that end, Wilson offers up Rodgers as a player who — stylistically — he admires.

But that’s where it stops:

“As a player, I love how Aaron Rodgers plays. You know, he’s my guy. But as far as his swag, the way he dresses, he doesn’t have any. He has no swag. If he was to wear a cool helmet, get rid of that single-buckle chin strap, shave a little bit, get rid of the baggy sleeves, you know he could have some cool swag going for him.”

And to be really swaggy about it, check out Wilson’s tweet in response to Rodgers’ reaction on the Pat McAfee Show:

This man really said Aaron Rodgers has no swag. And between Wilson’s swag and affinity for Jordan Brand products, it’s almost as if he is speaking to me. Hence, I’m almost at a point where I want the Bears to call up the Jaguars in order to trade up to draft him first overall. Because, clearly, he gets it.

And then there’s this:

Now, that is a bold comparison.

Daniel Jeremiah is one of the most notable draft gurus around. He doesn’t toss around big comps on a whim, so seeing this made my eyes bug out of my head. And suddenly, I’m dreaming of a football world where Wilson and Rodgers go toe-to-toe twice a year. Game recognize game. But who wins in a battle of swag? I, for one, would like to find out.
