OK, He’s Really Back: Mitch Trubisky Was a Full Participant in Practice Again

If once is good, then twice must be better:

For the second straight day, quarterback Mitch Trubisky was listed as a full participant in practice. And there was much rejoicing throughout the land that makes up Bears Nation!

On Wednesday, Head Coach Matt Nagy shared optimistic thoughts regarding Trubisky’s possible return. Nagy expressed a belief Trubisky would play in Sunday’s game against the Rams, but offered up the caveat that he needed to see how his quarterback performed in practice before he fully committed to that line of thinking. While meeting with reporters on Thursday, Nagy shared more happy thoughts.

“He looked good. He was throwing the ball strong. He felt good,” Nagy said in Thursday’s press conference (which you can watch here). That’s what I was hoping for yesterday when I talked to you all. I thought everything he did yesterday showed he’s where we were hoping to be.”

Barring some sort of unforeseen setback, Trubisky will return to the starting lineup after missing the last two games because of a bruised throwing shoulder.

Trubisky’s full participation wasn’t the only good news to come from Thursday’s injury report. Special teams ace Sherrick McManis (hamstring) and return specialist/running back Benny Cunningham (ankle) joined Trubisky as full participants in Thursday’s practice. It was the first time either Cunningham or McManis had practiced fully since missing last week’s game against the Giants. And while neither player is a high-profile name, their contributions to the special teams unit should not be overlooked.

The only player who remained out of action was safety Deon Bush, who did not participate in practice for the second consecutive day as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. It’s looking unlikely that the reserve safety and special teams contributor will play on Sunday, especially if he can’t give it a go in practice on Friday.

But still … there is more good news than bad news on the injury report. Soon enough, Trubisky, Cunningham, and McManis won’t even be on it at all. Hopefully, Bush will follow.
