Eddie Goldman Has Been Upgraded to Limited Participation on the Injury Report

One small step onto the practice field for Eddie Goldman could ultimately be one large leap once Sunday rolls around.

The first injury report of Week 2 is OUT, and the Chicago Bears’ starting nose tackle is still on it. HOWEVER, it is worth pointing out that the news isn’t all bad.

Goldman, who didn’t practice at all last week, was listed as “limited” on the first injury report leading up to Sunday’s game against the Bengals. Practicing with limitations isn’t inconsequential, even if the upgrade on the injury report feels small. Especially not when Goldman didn’t practice at all last week. Perhaps this is a sign things are trending in a positive direction for Goldman. It certainly would be welcome news after Goldman was unable to play in his first game back after sitting out the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns.

No, the Rams didn’t gash the Bears on the ground last week. But maybe having Goldman in the middle can muck up the pocket for Joe Burrow. Of course, he’ll need to show more progress on the next two injury reports before we start allowing ourselves to think about that happening.

As for the rest of the injury report:

Two left tackles appear with different designations. Starter Jason Peters (quad) was practicing with limitations. Meanwhile, backup Larry Borom (ankle) didn’t practice at all. Have to imagine this ankle injury will keep Borom on the shelf for a bit, but the Peters designation suggests that there is an inkling of hope to be had regarding his potential Week 2 return.

Joining Peters and Goldman as limited participants was Robert Quinn (back). The 31-year-old pass-rusher was in on 64 percent of the Bears’ defensive snaps in Week 1. This lines him up with where he was at while with the Cowboys in 2019. But because he had back issues earlier this summer, it is sensible to limit his practice reps. And on the other side of the formation, I must say a sense of relief fell over me not seeing Khalil Mack on the injury report to start the week. Now, let’s get Quinn on a healthy path, too.

Receivers Marquise Goodwin (quad) and Darnell Mooney (back), along with linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (shoulder) were practicing in full on Tuesday. So, all in all, the first injury report isn’t the worst to cross our wires. Hopefully things can continue to get better from here.
