Throughout his 198-game, 16-year career, Aaron Rodgers has thrown at least two interceptions in one game just 17 times … including this past Sunday, when he threw two picks en route to a 38-3 shellacking at the hands of the New Orleans Saints.
And while we’re not usually in the business of breaking down the performance of Aaron Rodgers for obvious reasons, this one came with a particularly … colorful explanation.
But first, here’s a look at the interception, itself:

On Tuesday, Rodgers joined former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee on his talk show to explain the errant toss that essentially ended the Packers’ chances of winning their season opener against New Orleans. And you’re going to want to listen up closely around the 1:10 mark (the important part is transcribed below):

Excuse, me what was that?
“I don’t like to make a lot of excuses for interceptions,” Rodgers said. “There’s some s*** ones. There’s some ones you wish you had back. And, some ones really aren’t your fault. That [first interception] was entirely due to the double nut shot I took.”
The reigning league MVP went on to explain the double nut shot further;
“I step up in the pocket, I was going to throw across my body to Davante [Adams] who’s running shallow across, and you know, it’s a ball I’ve thrown in practice before. I don’t feel bad about that throw, and right before I’m throwing it, I took a left kinda clothesline, and somebody on the right with a right kinda cross, double nut shot. I guess I gotta overcome that and throw a better ball next week. That was a painful one, they got their moneys worth on that one.”
Well, I’ve heard a lot of reasoning for bad plays in my time watching sports, but that one has to be the most, uh, candid.
That should do it for the double doink jokes from Green Bay fans, at least for a while.
