There has been an obvious focus on the Bears bringing in fresh blood with a new regime. However, this team had a handful of exiting free agents who merited consideration to return.
And according to the Tribune’s Brad Biggs, one such free agent, DeAndre Houston-Carson, is making his way back to Chicago:
It is a 1-year deal for $1.77 million, fully guaranteed.

Getting Houston-Carson back on a one-year deal checks some boxes.
Firstly, it marks the return of a long-time special teams ace. That might not be a high priority to some, but that group has grown to be a strength in recent years. So it would be nice to maintain some continuity in that phase of the game. Secondly, it keeps a versatile defensive piece for Matt Eberflus, Alan Williams, and the rest of that defensive staff to play with when the gang gets together this spring and summer. DHC might be a safety by trade, but he has spent some time in different positions for the Bears. Considering how Chicago is flipping to a four DL front, we could see Houston-Carson play safety, cornerback, or even a small linebacker role in certain packages. Versatility is king.
