There Sure is a Lot of Zach LaVine in the Latest Bulls Hype Video

Marc Eversley and Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls

The offseason-in-review video released by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday afternoon made for quite the enjoyable look back at a rejuvenating season.

If you haven’t seen it yet, give me a watch:

I know the way the 2021-22 campaign came to an end left a sour taste in a lot of mouths, but these three minutes serve as a good reminder that this year had more memorable moments than the past four years combined. From the rise of Ayo Dosunmu to the history-making of DeMar DeRozan, Bulls basketball truly felt back for the majority of the year, and I don’t want to take that for granted.

Speaking of not taking things for granted, did the Bulls have that in mind when editing together this footage? All it takes is one watch to notice that Zach LaVine is easily the most heavily featured player. Not only are his positive thoughts on the front office’s involvement of him in their decision-making process included, but he makes up a bulk of the commentary. And he also clearly dominates the mini All-Star Weekend weekend section over DeMar DeRozan.

I know it sounds a bit silly to hyper-focus on a little social media share, but these types of things aren’t inconsequential. The video evidently depicts LaVine as the face of the franchise, and that’s at least worth a note as his unrestricted free agency looms on the horizon.

The more the team moves forward promoting LaVine in this way, the slightly more comfortable we might be able to feel about his long-term future in Chicago. Again, no one is saying this three-minute montage is definitive proof that he stays, but these little things matter. The Bulls view him as their guy, and perhaps LaVine sees himself the same way.
