The only blemish on Monday’s injury report was linebacker Matt Adams not practicing due to a calf injury. So even though not participating in a walk-through isn’t the worst thing, it sure isn’t an encouraging sign.
And it turns out the DNP next to Adams’ name on the participation report was a sign of things to come:
Getting a calf injury right after returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out of action sounds like an advanced type of pain. And the type that would only follow a Bears player. Just when you thought the arrow was pointing up on the health report, Adams, a MIKE starting linebacker, lands on IR. What a bummer.
Brought in because of his knowledge and experience within the confines of the Matt Eberflus/Alan Williams defense, injuries have limited Adams to just 40 total defensive snaps in three games with the Bears. Chicago has other options (Joe Thomas, Jack Sanborn, the ability to work with a heavy nickel package) to combat Adams’ loss. But that their depth is taking a hit is suboptimal.
Adams will miss at least the next four games. But his removal from the active roster opens up a spot on the 53-man. Anyone have any ideas on how to fill it?
