Wednesday’s Chicago Bears injury report update left me with an uneasy feeling in my stomach.
One day later, I’m feeling marginally better about Thursday’s edition — mostly because Teven Jenkins was upgraded to a full participant.
It’s the best news to come from today’s injury report from the Bears:
Jenkins, the Bears’ starting right guard, began the week with a limited participation designation because of a back injury. If you’ll recall, Jenkins had back surgery as a rookie in August 2021 and had an injury slow him down during training camp this year. The last thing Chicago’s football team needed was an injury setback for its best lineman. Jenkins is putting together a strong season at guard, a position he has been playing full-time since August. It has been impressive to watch to this point, but Jenkins still has room for growth. In other words, we’d love to see him give us a full season of health to give him a thorough look at his new position. And going from limited on Wednesday to full on Thursday is a step in that direction.
As for the rest of the injury report, it’s more of the same as yesterday. Right tackle Larry Borom remains in concussion protocol and is at risk of missing his second consecutive game. Cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Eddie Jackson are still limited with hip injuries. I think Friday will give us more clarity to the injury situations this team is dealing with — if not from the injury report, then from Head Coach Matt Eberflus and his regularly scheduled Friday press conference.
