Big Ten Teams Projected to Make the Tournament
Fans are tracking the latest bracketology trying to figure out how many Big Ten teams will get in. The latest projections have the Big Ten getting strong representation in March Madness. College basketball analysts are projecting nine teams from the conference will make the NCAA Tournament.
It looks like Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, and Rutgers are in for now. Rutgers and Penn State are sitting on the bubble and some projections have them as two of the last four teams in. But after Penn State’s run to the Big Ten finals, they should be solidly in.
Squads like the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan Wolverines find themselves on the outside looking in after disappointing seasons. Michigan went 17-15 overall and lost their first game in the 2023 Big Ten Tournament. The Ohio State Buckeyes shocked Iowa in their first game in the conference tournament, but ultimately could not get by Purdue to cement a Cinderella run.
Big Ten Conference Potential Number 1 Seeds
With nine Big Ten teams potentially getting in, will any of the Big Ten schools be a number 1 seed? Purdue is sitting at a number 2 seed after a strong season. That could change if the Boilermakers win the Big Ten Championship today against Penn State. Purdue won the Big Ten regular season crown at 15-5 in conference play.Â
Zach Edey averaged 21.9 points per game and added 12.8 rebounds per game to lead the team. Purdue is the top squad as the conference hopes to send nine teams to the NCAA Tournament.
Projections for the Big 12, Big East, West Coast Conference, and More
What about the rest of the teams in this year’s tournament? What college basketball teams from which conferences will fill the bracket? Projections have the SEC with a strong showing of eight teams.
The Big 12 is also expected to get around eight teams in the tournament. The ACC and Big East are hoping to get five in while the Pac-12 is expecting a low number of three teams in the NCAA Tournament.
