Finally, the Bears Draft Receiver Help — It’s Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott

OK, so drafting a wide receiver wasn’t as high of a priority on draft weekend as I thought it would be when the NFL regular season came to a close.

But you should give me a break.

Because even though the team brought in DJ Moore via trade, saw Equanimeous St. Brown and Dante Pettis return, and was already set to welcome back Chase Claypool, Velus Jones Jr.and Darnell Mooney, this group was still in need of help. Particularly in the depth department. Plus, with Claypool and Mooney on the brink of free agency, the Bears had a sneaky need for a receiver they could draft now, develop in season, and not worry about throwing too much at a rookie all at once.

And yet, after two days, the Bears didn’t address that need. They instead waited until Day 3. But in doing so, landed a prospect some had going as early in Round 2.

Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott is the newest addition to Chicago’s collection of pass-catchers:

Scott, 21, is a speedster. Checking in at 5-10 and 177 pounds, Scott ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. And college defenses saw that speed go full throttle at Cincy last year as Scott caught 54 passes for 899 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. That production earned him second-team All-AAC honors. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said on the television broadcast that Scott reminded him of Darnell Mooney. Now, Scott and Mooney are teammates. Perhaps the Bears see Scott as a Mooney replacement? Maybe it’s too early to tell. But I suppose it is never too early to fill future needs. After all, you can never have enough pass-catching help. Bears fans know that story all too well.

Here are some Scott highlights and nuggets to hold you over:
