Browns Player Carjacked, Chiefs Visit the White House, Cowboys Out on Hopkins, and Other NFL Bullets

“It’s a cruel world we live in,” Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome tweeted on Monday. Newsome had his car stolen at gunpoint late Sunday night, according to News 5 in Cleveland. Newsome became the latest Browns player, falling victim to a recent string of thefts.

  • According to the News 5 report, Newsome had his vehicle stolen at gunpoint late Sunday night. Additionally, Browns running back Dmetric Felton had his vehicle stolen earlier on Sunday.
  • These are the third and fourth car thefts involving Browns players this year. In January, someone took quarterback Deshaun Watson’s truck from a dealership in North Olmsted.
  • According to SI.com, a third unnamed player was robbed of his car, as well as jewelry.
  • The Kansas City Chiefs visited the White House on Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl LVII victory with President Joe Biden and other White House employees. Of course, Travis Kelce tried to take the podium when he had a chance. However, Patrick Mahomes quickly intercepted Kelce and moved him away from the microphone.
  • So, you can cross the Dallas Cowboys off the list of potential landing spots for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Cowboys executive Stephen Jones made that crystal clear on Monday. Jones told Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the Cowboys are pleased with their receiving group:
  • “He’s not on this team right now,” Jones said, (via Clarence E. Hill Jr.). “We went down the road with [Brandin] Cooks. We’re very comfortable with Cooks. We’re pleased with our receiving group.”

  • As Jones pointed out, the Cowboys traded for Brandin Cooks in March. The Cowboys were looking for help at wide receiver this offseason, and Cooks fills that role. Houston received a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick in exchange for Cooks. Cooks caught 57 passes for 699 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games with the Texans last season, his third in Houston.
  • Hopkins was released by the Cardinals on May 26. Hopkins will turn turn 31 next month. The former All-Pro wide receiver loved 64 catches for a team-leading 717 yards, and three touchdowns last year. In his three seasons in Arizona, Hopkins had 2,696 yards and 17 touchdowns on 221 receptions.
  • Samantha Rivera of CBS Miami has gone viral for her stiff arm during a hit from the Stanley Cup Finals last night. Rivera fended off a fan trying to enter the shot during her segment after the Golden Knights victory over the Panthers last night. Samantha wasn’t having it. Everyone on Twitter has noticed today, including the NFL’s social account.
  • Rivera is a local product, and it was really cool to see her stand her ground in the moment last night. So, a hat tip to the Chicagoland native this morning!
  • Lions quarterback Jared Goff is trying to one-up Kirk Cousins …
  • According to a report from Front Office Sports, former NFL running back LeSean McCoy is a strong candidate to replace Shannon Sharpe as Skip Bayliss’ debate partner on FS1’s ‘Undisputed.’
  • McCoy is currently a co-host on FS1’s ‘SPEAK.’ According to the report, he will have an extended audition once Sharpe takes his contractual buyout from FOX Sports. McCoy joined the network in 2022 after a 12-year NFL career.
  • Personally, I’m not a fan of Bayless, or the show’s format. But hey, good for McCoy. I’ll never knock someone for getting a big opportunity.
  • Isaiah Rodgers is the subject of an investigation regarding violating the league’s gambling policy. Rodgers is accused of betting on Colts games. However, If found guilty, the NFL could impose a penalty of up to a lifetime ban.
  • Connor Beard spoke to the media last night. The future Blackhawk was asked about being selected by Chicago in the NHL Draft:
  • So, the all-mighty dollar reigns supreme after all …
