[See the good news UPDATE below!]
Anthony Rizzo is, without question, one of the best players in baseball. He’s arguably the best overall first baseman in the game, he won an award as the best defender in the NL, and he’s perennially a top five MVP candidate.
To say that he is beloved among Cubs fans and in Chicago is saying very little.
And even still, I doubt his popularity is tied solely to his incredible baseball performance, or even his winning smile and marketable personality.

Instead, it’s all of those things, combined with the fact that Rizzo – without pretense or effort – comes off as a genuinely good guy. In ways public and private, Rizzo frequently demonstrates his care for the community, both via his Family Foundation, and through personal acts of kindness.
Like this:
Heard you are a big @Cubs fan Henry. When you are better I have a couple tickets and BP passes waiting for you at Wrigley. #StayStrong https://t.co/VYDFPE9rY0

Henry, 12, was severely injured by a classmate at his school, and recently came out of a coma. Hopefully he will make a full recovery, and be able to enjoy Rizzo’s offer. He will also wake up to the support of his other classmates and well-wishers:
Heard Henry's school will be wearing @Cubs gear tom to show their support Wear ur gear & I'll RT pics.Let's all show our support #StayStrong

And sure enough, as you can see in Rizzo’s timeline and the replies to his tweet, classmates and fans all over are showing support to #StayStrong for Henry.
Good man, Anthony Rizzo. Get well, Henry. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
And a reminder: whether publicly or privately, let’s all do what we can for each other when we have an opportunity.
