The Chicago Cubs have, unfortunately, had some bad starts over the years, and late-April is not always a still-hopeful time for the team’s fans, as it is this year.
Consider the team and the situation back on this day in 1983, when the Cubs started 5-14 out of the gate. Then Cubs manager Lee Elia responded to that start, and what he perceived to be a lack of fan support. It was the managerial rant to end all managerial rants, and none has yet lived up to it.
If you’ve never listened, or just want to hear it again, be reminded the language is WAY over the top:
That year’s team would go on to bottom out right around 6-17, before posting a winning record the rest of the way. And then the 1984 team obviously went on to have substantial success (albeit under a new manager). So maybe the rant worked?
