Brennen Davis made his return to Triple-A last night, and of course, he managed to smack a three-run home run in an 8-2 win for the Iowa Cubs. That and more in today’s Cubs Farm Report.

Triple-A Iowa Cubs (14-8)

The Iowa Cubs kicked off their six-game road series against the Buffalo Bisons with a convincing 8-2 win at Sahlen Field. They took an early lead with a run in the second inning, then exploded for five runs in the third, including home runs by Brennen Davis and Jake Slaughter.

Two more runs in the fourth extended their lead. Buffalo managed to score two runs in the fourth inning off a homer by Will Robertson but couldn’t mount a comeback. Chris Clarke started on the mound for Iowa, pitching 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Davis hit his first homer of the season, and Slaughter had an outstanding night, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs.

Double-A Tennessee Smokies (10-6)

The Tennessee Smokies topped the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Wednesday evening. Brandon Birdsell started on the mound for the Smokies and allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks in five innings of work while racking up seven strikeouts. Moises Ballesteros hit a two-run home run for the Smokies in the fourth inning. Kevin Alcántara and James Triantos each doubled and drove in runs in the win.

High-A South Bend Cubs (4-13)

Angel Hernandez (not the blind umpire) took the loss for the South Bend Cubs last night after allowing three runs on three hits and a walk in relief of starter Will Sanders. South Bend could only muster two runs (one unearned) on five hits, with the lone RBI on the evening going to Yohendrick Pinango. South Bend was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans (6-10)

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans dominated the Lynchburg Hillcats with a 15-2 victory, marking their third consecutive win and improving their record to 6-10, while the Hillcats dropped to 8-9.

The Pelicans unleashed their strongest offensive performance of the season, tallying 15 runs on 12 hits. Chris Paciolla launched his first homer of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning, while Carter Trice contributed a two-run homer in the sixth, his second of the season. Cristian Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 12 games and drove in two runs. Seven of the Pelicans’ hits went for extra bases.

Myrtle Beach utilized only three pitchers, with reliever Ty Johnson earning the win after allowing one earned run in three and two third innings. Starter Nick Dean struck out five in four innings, conceding just one earned run.
