Oh? The Rams Reportedly Want to Trade into the Top 10 of the 2024 NFL Draft

Rams 3-Round Mock Draft

If you’re looking for chaos on NFL Draft day, you just might get it.

And leave it to the script-writers to get a team out in Hollywood involved.

Here is a scoop from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, who hears the Los Angeles Rams are calling teams looking to get into the top 10:

It blows my mind thinking about how the Los Angeles Rams have not used a first-round pick since 2016. Their last first-rounder was Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Since then, the team has turned first-round picks into players like Jalen Ramsey and Matthew Stafford (among others). As a result of their free-wheeling ways, the Rams won Super Bowl LVI in February 2021. Since then, the Rams have put up a 5-12 season in 2022 before rebounding in 2023 with a 10-win season and a playoff berth. However, with Aaron Donald retiring and Stafford getting up there in age, perhaps a changing of the guard is on the horizon.

The Rams currently hold the No. 19 pick in the first round. Trading up figures to be a costly expenditure. For the sake of comparison, the Bears sent two first-rounders and two Day 3 picks to move up from No. 20 to the 11th pick in order to select quarterback Justin Fields. So with the Rams picking 19th, you can understand why my head went where it did. But would the Rams trade up to take Matthew Stafford’s heir apparent? Or is there another player they have eyes on with a top-10 pick. Perhaps a butt-kicking defensive end? Maybe someone who can take Donald’s place in the interior? The Rams are a total wild-card, folks.

Here is where I stand: So long as the Los Angeles Rams don’t mess with whatever the Chicago Bears have cooking in the NFL Draft, I’m totally down to see them cause some chaos. But if they have eyes for a prospect that I want on the Bears, a successful trade up the board would not please me in the slightest.

The Los Angeles Rams could bring chaos to the 2024 NFL Draft

Just because mercury in retrograde is in our rear-view mirror doesn’t mean NFL Draft ridiculousness isn’t on our radar. In fact, there is a part of me that feels like something odd is bound to happen this weekend. I felt it this morning when I saw this tweet from Brad Spielberger:

We know what is happening with the first pick. USC quarterback Caleb Williams is coming to the Chicago Bears. After that? Good luck pegging every pick that follows. As far as I’m concerned, give me the most chaotic picks from selection No. 2 on out. Save for the Bears pick, of course. I want that particular selection to be equal parts good and predictable. For example, landing on Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze. Or finding a way to snag Ohio State standout wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. with that other top-10 pick. Anything that comes after that is just for funsies anyway.
