Wake Up and Watch the Cubs Homer Party (and Brewers Trolling): Zobrist, Bryant, Bryant, Rizzo

The Chicago Cubs had a four-homer day yesterday for the second time in a week, taking advantage of a healthy breezy heading out of Wrigley as they beat up on the Brewers.

Ben Zobrist kicked things off to open up the game for the Cubs, and they just kept thumping from there:

The Cubs juuuuuust missed a fifth homer, too, when Ian Happ’s first inning rocket double hit off the underside of the basket in right field.

Kris Bryant’s opposite-field shot was the Cubs’ longest and hardest of the day (422 feet, 107.2 mph), which reminds you about his power. Interestingly, though, because of where they all wound up, only Zobrist’s leadoff shot would have left all 30 ballparks in baseball, according to ESPN’s home run tracker. Bryant’s homer to left would have gotten out of only three other ballparks.

The homers were Bryant’s 9th and 10th on the year, Rizzo’s 8th, and Zobrist’s 4th. The only two Cubs with more than Zobrist but fewer than Bryant and Rizzo: Javy Baez and Kyle Schwarber each have six homers.

For their part, the Cubs’ Twitter account had a whole lot of fun with the Cubs’ big day, getting in some *eh hem* apparent digs at the Brewers for their complaining about the previous day’s postponed game:

Enhanced Box Score: Pirates 3, Cubs 2 – May 19, 2024

The Pirates Can Be As Mad As They Like, But That Call Was Correct

The Cubs Walk It Off on a Weird Play at the Plate!

Brennen Davis FREAKING DID IT AGAIN! AND THEN HE DID IT AGAIN AFTER THAT!

This guy. What do I even say? I was already kinda buzzy when Brennen Davis homered again - a grand slam - for the fifth time in six games, and sixth time in eight games. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. https://twitter.com/IowaCubs/status/1791967453888598441 Truly...
