Despite pleas to the contrary, David Ortiz is still planning on retiring at the end of the 2016 season (after all, if he didn’t he’d have to return all 34 pounds of that Northwest King Salmon to the Mariners), but he isn’t the only living legend leaving us at the end of the year.
Longtime Dodgers’ broadcaster Vin Scully (and I mean longtime) is also planning on hanging up the microphones when the season is over, after completing nearly 70 years with the Dodgers (seriously). So when the Red Sox rolled into Los Angeles for some interleague play, it was only fitting that these two baseball icons got together off the field to briefly talk about baseball, their careers, and the respect they have for each other.
The collective baseball knowledge and experience loaded into those two minds is unparalleled. This really is a rare meeting between two living legends, and I couldn’t be happier that someone set it up, and – more importantly – filmed it for us to watch.
