Aroldis Chapman Trucked an Umpire in a Miscommunication at First Base

Aroldis Chapman is best known for his his triple-digit fastball, but it’s not just his arm that’s big. He is a VERY BIG dude overall. He’s listed at 6’4″ 218 lbs, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that latter number is light.

Anyway, that is all to say that if Chapman were barreling down on you, he’s not a guy you’d want to get trucked by. Unfortunately for first base umpire Vic Carapazza, that’s exactly what happened:

Chapman tried to peel off, as his first baseman was going to try to make the play at first base by himself. Chapman didn’t see Carapazza there, and down they both went.

Kudos to Carapazza for still having the wherewithal to make the safe call from his behind. He must’ve been OK.
