Just when you thought you had ridden yourself of Jay Cutler, it turns out that the retired quarterback will be back on your television set before you know it.
According to Greg Brady, who co-hosts the Brady and Price Show, Cutler will be on the call of the Chicago Bears’ season-opener on September 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. Brady had Charles Davis of FOX Sports on his show to share the news. Davis is the other analyst on the broadcast, which features Kevin Burkhardt as the play-by-play voice. The Burkhardt-Davis-Cutler trio makes up FOX’s No. 2 broadcast team, which means the threesome could land some prime games throughout the course of the season.
And that means even more Cutler appearances on a national stage.
Cutler will make his professional broadcasting debut on FOX when the Bears travel to play the Tennessee Titans on August 27 in the all-important third game of the preseason. Usually, preseason Week 3 is the dress rehearsal where starters receive a bulk of the playing time as they gear up for games of consequence to come in the regular season. So it only makes sense for Cutler to cut his teeth in the regular season two weeks later in a game featuring one of the teams he took a close look at during the preseason.
There is no more polarizing figure on the Chicago sports scene than Cutler, which makes his broadcast insight must-see-TV. What does he have to say about the quarterback situation between Mike Glennon and Mitch Trubisky? Will he share some dirt about John Fox or his coaching staff? What kind of inside-the-locker room stories will he share about former teammates?
It still remains unknown whether or not Cutler can put his thoughts and analysis into tangible sentences on live television. In that sense, Cutler is a wild card. If he broadcasts the way he played in Chicago, the broadcasts could prove to be interesting.
Add it to the random pile of intriguing story lines that surround the 2017 Chicago Bears.
