I am going to preface this by saying there isn’t a reason to freak out over news that Kiran Amegadjie will miss the Chicago Bears upcoming rookie minicamp practices. And there is definitely no reason to be alarmed about a quad injury that will keep him out for a while. But I have to acknowledge the injury news because it’s not something you can simply ignore.
Bear Report’s Zack Pearson shares the latest on Chicago’s third-round pick from last month’s NFL Draft:
Obviously, the bummer portion of the news is that Kiran Amegadjie is dealing with a quad injury. That the injury is serious enough to sideline him for rookie minicamp stinks, too.
The Bears drafted Kiran Amegadjie with the No. 75 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. A Chicagoland native from Hinsdale who played his college ball at Yale, Amegadjie is an athletic and toolsy offensive line prospect who Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles believes could potentially crack the starting lineup. It probably wasn’t going to happen in 2024 unless desperate times called for desperate measures. But 2025? After spending some time in a swing tackle role? Sure, that seems feasible. Given that perspective, there should be no freaking out about Amegadjie’s injury. It’s a short-term problem that isn’t going to have a major impact on things at the moment. Exhale, friends.

Kiran Amegadjie is going to be out for a while
Don’t get me wrong. I know rookie minicamp is a make-or-break time of year. But it is a good time for players to get to know one another, mix it up, and start building toward the season ahead. So it’s not as if missing time here is totally inconsequential. But the way I see it: Missing minicamp due to injury is less of a road block and more of a speed hump. Plus, he’ll still have his nose in a playbook and be around for installs. That stuff is important, too. After all, there are lessons to be learned while watching from the sidelines. Here’s hoping Kiran Amegadjie is a sideline sponge and a quick learner.
For what it’s worth, Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus offers up a timetable for Amegadjie’s return at training camp. The waiting is always the hardest part. However, health going into training camp in July is highly important.
With Amegadjie out, an opportunity could present itself for other Chicago Bears rookie offensive linemen to shine in his place. Maybe fellow rookies such as Theo Benedet, David Satkowski, Donald Ventrelli, or Josh Sokol will make the most of additional opportunities that come their way with Kiran Amegadjie out. What better time to make a first impression than at rookie minicamp?
