Down Bear: Jonathan Bullard Will Not Travel, Becomes Latest Defensive Standout To Be Sidelined

Chicago Bears News

The road for Roy Robertson-Harris to earn playing time has cleared up, albeit because of some unfortunate injury news.

Defensive ends Jonathan Bullard and Mitch Unrein are among the 11 players announced by the Chicago Bears who won’t travel to Nashville for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Bullard left the Bears’ second preseason game early with a glute injury, and never returned. Robertson-Harris stands to be the beneficiary of additional snaps in a game where regulars will receive a significant chunk of playing time.

The second-year linebacker-turned-defensive-lineman was one of the most impressive players in the Bears’ preseason Week 2 win against the Arizona Cardinals. Robertson-Harris flashed often, picking up a pair of sacks, stopping run plays in the backfield, and earning an 81.3 grade from Pro Football Focus. Perhaps a second-year breakout is on the horizon if he keeps up his production and continues to get increased playing time.

Here is your full list:

Beyond surprises such as cornerback Johnthan Banks being listed as a wide receiver and DeAndre Houston Carson being a defensive lineman, most of the names on the list are familiar to it. Bryce Callahan (ankle) is missing his second straight week, which could give Kyle Fuller additional reps, while receivers Josh Bellamy and Markus Wheaton continue to be sidelined.

Kyle Long’s continued absence has put the odds of him debuting during the regular season opener against the Atlanta Falcons in doubt.

Players who were on last week’s “will not travel” list who aren’t on this week’s list are linebackers Danny Trevathan (he might even play!) and Alex Scearce running backs Jordan Howard and Jeremy Langford, and defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore.
