One pundit who specializes in sports injury analysis believes Zach Miller’s career is at the end of the line.
While the initial procedure to save Miller’s leg was a success, Sports Medical Analyst David J. Chao writes that Miller might have even more surgeries ahead of him. Further, Chao believes Miller’s NFL career is “undoubtedly” over, even if the medical problems and need for more surgeries isn’t. If that’s how it plays out for Miller, it will be a somber end to a player whose injury riddled career looked to finally be gaining some momentum with Mitch Trubisky at quarterback.
Chao writes that Miller will likely undergo a variety of orthopedic surgeries to reconstruct the torn ligaments suffered on this overturned touchdown catch in Week 8. He believes three or four major knee ligaments could be torn, and frames it as three more surgeries (each as serious as an ACL repair) being done at once.
Chicago Bears Head Coach John Fox offered up some cautious optimism regarding Zach Miller’s health, but also noted the tight end isn’t out of the woods quite yet. Current and former Bears, as well as prominent names from around the NFL chimed in on social media to wish Miller the best on his road to recovery.
