The bye week was supposed to allow the Bears to rest and recuperate ahead of an important second half of the season. Unfortunately, things are already off to an inauspicious start.
Inside linebacker Danny Trevathan and tight end Dion Sims are out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Neither player practiced last week, but both were listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Trevathan suffered a calf injury in Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints. He played through it, but Head Coach John Fox said the injury worsened in the days after the game. Sims has missed practice with what was simply referred to as an illness all week. With Zach Miller also not playing (obviously that’s a much different story), you might expect to finally see a more-involved Adam Shaheen this afternoon.
At least the Bears added some depth at linebacker by calling up Jonathan Anderson from the practice squad on Saturday, as well as bringing up tight end Ben Braunecker earlier in the week after placing Zach Miller on injured reserve.
Still, being without two starters isn’t how the Bears wanted to enter Sunday’s game.
