It appears as if Leonard Floyd’s 2017 season will come to an end.
Chicago Bears Head Coach John Fox believes it’s “more than likely” Floyd will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season and opening up a roster spot in the process. Floyd injured his MCL and PCL when Kyle Fuller collided with him while trying to make a tackle on a ball carrier, but avoided a catastrophic ACL injury.
Floyd was one of three defensive starters who did not practice on Wednesday. Joining the upstart outside linebacker/edge rusher were defensive lineman Akiem Hicks (knee) and inside linebacker Danny Trevathan (calf). Hicks, who has played on 97.9 percent of the team’s defensive snaps since the bye week, is a new addition to the injury report. Trevathan hasn’t participated in practice activities since playing through a calf injury suffered in the team’s Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Wide receiver Josh Bellamy (concussion), defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris (hamstring), and safety DeAndre Houston-Carson (ankle) also missed practice. But at least Dion Sims took some steps toward a return to the playing field on Wednesday, participating in his first practice since the bye week – albeit in a limited capacity.
The 26-year-old tight end hinted as much last night in a tweet:

Sims started in each of the first eight games of the season, but has nine catches and 113 receiving yards to show for the 352 offensive snaps he has played in his first season with the Bears. Where he fits in the offense after Adam Shaheen’s breakout game against the Lions in Week 10 remains to be seen, but there is no such thing as too many targets for an offense in need of playmakers.
Joining Sims among the limited participants in Wednesday’s practice were wide receiver Dontrelle Inman (groin), offensive lineman Tom Compton (ankle), defensive lineman Mitch Unrein (knee), and cornerback Bryce Callahan (knee).
