Jarvis Landry To Sign Franchise Tag, Which Means A Trade Can Officially Happen

Chicago Bears

Let the games begin!

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports Jarvis Landry will accept the franchise tag from the Miami Dolphins. Once Landry officially signs the tag, a trade can officially happen. Rapoport tweets teams inquiring about Landry view him as a No. 1 receiver, whatever his next deal looks like should be a plentiful one. And by all accounts, it looks like a trade will happen and Landry will be moving on from Miami.

For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that no trade is imminent. Still, Miami needs to work quickly to move Landry in an attempt to get under the salary cap. Depending on which salary capologist you trust most, the Dolphins are somewhere between $15 million and $20 million over the cap. They’ll need to get out of the red by 3 p.m. on March 14.

The Chicago Bears emerged as a team interested in acquiring Landry, a three-time Pro Bowl receiver who would immediately provide an upgrade to a subpar unit. A rumored deal that would have sent Jordan Howard to the Dolphins as part of the exchange has since been shot down.

Landry led the NFL with 112 catches in 2017, but averaged less than 10 yards per reception and fell short of gaining 1,000 yards for a third straight season. While he is an excellent receiver, he isn’t the only option for the Bears — so it’s not like it’s Landry or bust.

Stay tuned, business is about to pick up.
