Fourth of July Weekend is Coming (Please Celebrate Responsibly) and Other Bullets

With the Fourth of July holiday squeezing into the middle of next week, some celebrations are set to kick off during this final weekend of June. Please celebrate responsibly.

Jameis Winston’s three-game suspension officially came down on Wednesday, and he won’t be eligible to return until Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. However, Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith wonders if Winston will be in a position to do so. Winston can’t officially return to the team until Tuesday, September 25 because Tampa’s Week 3 matchup is on Monday Night Football. It’s fair to ask if it would be wise to throw Winston to the fire after three weeks off and a short week of preparation.

To be off three weeks and get a short prep week only to face a defense that finished in the top-10 in scoring and yardage last year doesn’t sound like a winning game plan. And yes, Winston is 2-0 against the Bears … but he was aided by an awful Chicago offense that couldn’t wait to turn it over and give the ball to the Bucs in scoring position. We’ll play the waiting game on this one.

And because we like tying up loose ends, Mike Glennon – whose turnover-filled game against the Bucs led to the first round of questions wondering when Mitch Trubisky would debut – tells the Arizona Cardinals’ official website that he is still living the dream. Some would say Glennon’s play in 2017 should have been a one-way ticket out of the league, but someone still saw something in him to get him on board in Arizona. So while there isn’t a quarterback who would rather be on the bench instead of starting, I suppose things could be worse because Glennon could be out of football altogether.

Matt Eurich of 247Sports points out a noteworthy change on the roster, as Jonathan Anderson is listed as an outside linebacker on the Bears’ official website. Anderson has three starts (and 31 games) under his belt with the Bears over the last three seasons, and Eurich offers up the idea that Anderson’s versatility could help the Bears solve some issues they have at outside linebacker. As far as I’m concerned, any help would be greatly appreciated.

POLL ALERT: Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Rumors wonders which new head-coach will have the most success in 2018. Five of the seven new coaches this season are in their first year on the job, including the Bears’ Matt Nagy.

Bright Ugwoegbu played his college ball at Oregon State and is eligible for the supplemental draft. He doesn’t have the traditional size or speed in an outside linebacker, but maybe there’s something else the team likes in what they see. Though, I’m not sure he’ll be plucked in the supplemental draft.

I hope the Bears aren’t in a position to draft Ed Oliver when the 2019 NFL Draft rolls around, but favorable comparisons to former Bear Tommie Harris and current defensive stud Aaron Donald from long-time scout Greg Gabriel have me intrigued.

The Bears spent all that money on receivers in free agency and had a potent deep target in the fold early last season in Deonte Thompson:
