Preseason Week 2 is a time to make adjustments. And judging from what we saw during the Chicago Bears’ last preseason contest, there are plenty of them to be made.
It’s the Bears and Denver Broncos going head-to-head in this preseason showdown, where growth is expected to be on display. The Bears played their offensive starters to two series (eight snaps), but were disappointing in a limited outing. Mitch Trubisky attempted just four passes, Taquan Mizzell (not Jordan Howard or Tarik Cohen) was the featured back, and Kevin White (not Allen Robinson) was lined up in the “X” position with the first unit. Not quite what we’ve envisioned throughout the duration of the offseason.
Sure, we enjoyed the heck out of Trubisky airing it out on the first play from scrimmage. We would have enjoyed it more had White been able to haul in the pass.
Perhaps we’ll see a deep target for Allen Robinson, who is set to make his Bears preseason debut this evening against Denver.
You can figure the Bears’ starters to play into the second quarter and for their second-stringers to carry the game for a vast majority of the rest of the game with the third-team offense and defense cleaning things up at the end. There are a lot of Bears who have something to play for on Saturday. Whether it’s Cody Whitehair tightening up his shotgun snaps, James Daniels pushing for a starting role on the offensive line, Kyle Fuller rebounding from a rough go at practice against Emmanuel Sanders, etc. Heck, we’re not even sure if Roquan Smith will make his debut or if it must wait until next week.
This thing can go in any number of ways … and we’re totally here for it.
