If you needed a pick-me-up following the uncertainty surrounding Mitch Trubisky’s playing status for Thursday’s game against the Lions, the release of a mic’d up Akiem Hicks during Sunday’s Bears win against the Vikings is everything you need to turn the day around:
And while Hicks is the star of this week’s episode of Mic’d Up, it’s Trubisky who steals the show with a few words that provide all the pre-game hype you need going into a primetime showdown with first place on the line:
“Let’s make a statement. Not to everybody watching, but to each other, to your brother next to you that you’re going to give whatever it takes tonight to get that job done.”
That sure beats Kirk Cousins’ “They’re not the reason this game moved to prime time. We are.” schtick.
Even though Trubisky didn’t deliver the statement game we were rooting for him to put up, his friends on the other side of the ball shined brightest in primetime and Hicks was among the leaders of the pack. He was an unblockable force who had five tackles-for-loss, two QB Hits, four hurries, and a sack in his most well-rounded performance of the year. We’re at a point now where if Hicks doesn’t make the Pro Bowl, we’re going to call shenanigans on the whole process because that guy is a monster performer who deserves credit for what he has become since joining the Bears.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch this on loop to get prepped for Thursday’s game.
